FILE INFO
CaptionThe biggest problem facing the coral reefs near Key West today is lack of clean; clear water. Corals need to be in clean; clear nutrient free waters in order to live. Clean water is the baseline; the underlying most important factor in regards to the survival of tropical corals. Corals have evolved over millions of years living in water that is so pure that it is often described as the desert of the oceans, meaning that it contains no nutrients or is nutrient limited. Coral reef habitats provide themselves with the right balance of essential nutrients that are in amounts so small only a few scientists are capable of detecting them.
