| FILE INFO | | Caption | Besides the apparent black band outbreak on this colony a veil of yellowing is present on the coral tissue. It has been proven that warm ocean water not only causes coral colonies to expel their symbiotic algae and bleach but it also has been proven that warm water drives up the incidence and severity of coral diseases. Notice the pattern of discolored/yellowing of the coral tissue on both sides of the black band outbreak. How does a coral colony become infected? Our 1998 Briareum research proved physical contact is one way a disease can be contracted but is that the only way? |
