| About San Blas These images were taken in the San Blas Islands between September and November of 2007. The San Blas is an archipelago of about three hundred islands located off the North coast of Panama. The islands have been inhabited by the Kuna Indians since the beginning of recorded history. The Kuna have always lived off the land and sea, what they take from the sea once used, is returned. Until recently this has been a sustainable cycle as all their materials were natural. With the introduction of plastic the Kuna now have one time use items that are non biodegradable, however the culture of disposal by sea remains unchanged. This might sound like a terrible situation, however, the Kuna are faced with a far more sinister problem that they cannot understand, and are not responsible for. Global warming! While the scientists and industrialists argue the details and debate the quotas, strange things are happening in the idyllic Kuna Yala. I compared satellite and aerial photography of the islands, with the actual dimensions while I was there. These islands are shrinking and disappearing at an alarming rate. While underwater, rise in sea water temperature is causing vast amounts of Coral Stressing and Coral Bleaching. Compare these photographs with others of any living coral and the difference should be plain to see. Please realize that the warming oceans is responsible for this reef destruction, and the strange and violent weather patterns we are experiencing, It is in the best interest of every citizen of planet earth to do something now, it is a process that must be stopped and reversed, in ever small way each of us can make a difference. There are many ways, and many places to find out what YOU can do. Use the internet to find them Please. Liz Braiser
