|Marquesas patch reef bleaching and stress |
The Marquesas Keys are located about 25 miles west of Key West Florida. This patch reef is due south of the south western most cay. Record amounts of polluted agricultural runoff were diverted in to Florida Bay by the South Florida Water Management District under the watchful eye of the FKNMS. This created a toxic potpourri of pollution that swept over the Lower Florida Keys reefs exacerbating an episodic coral bleaching event that began in 1997. Very unusual photographs.
