FILE INFO | Caption | The Grand Canyon at Sand Key is comprised of coral colonies that are thousands of years old, the oldest corals near Key West. These corals cannot live in the dark without sunlight or they will die. Over the past 15 years we have witnessed a substantial decrease in the underwater visibility on our reefs and a proportionate increase in coral disease, coral mortality and algal abundance. The next image was taken only a week after this one was taken. |
