FILE INFO | Caption | This coral colony is the Paul Revere of corals that alerted us to the emergence of new coral diseases appearing on the reefs in the Florida Keys back in the early 1990s. This picture was taken in 1994 during one of the first Reef Relief Coral survey dives and this was the first infection of this type to be documented and routinely monitored. I named the infection Yellow Band and we were given credit for having discovered it. This was the first significant contribution achieved by the Reef Relief Monitoring Survey Program yet iy was far from the last. This subjects ID is Yellow Band One or YB1. |
